As a front-end developer, I specialize in converting static designs into pixel-perfect, dynamic user interfaces. I enjoy employing the newest technologies and standards in (X)HTML/CSS, Javascript, and Flash/ActionScript as much as anyone, but I strongly consider how the end user will interact with the interface and use technology to support that interaction. I'm not only aware of how the end customer may use the application or site, but how someone may need to work with my code or assets to maintain it long-term. Having inherited some “not so ideal” code myself, I appreciate the importance of employing a scalable approach to development that can easily be interpreted by other developers during transition.

FileGenius™

FileGenius Marketing Site and File Transfer Site

This project consists of a marketing site and a file transfer site used by businesses to share files amongst their vendors, freelancers, etc. Both sites utilize object-oriented PHP and MySQL on the backend, and the file transfer site utilizes jQuery for heavy AJAX/dynamic UI development. Much of the UI interaction is built with parsed JSON objects, allowing client-side code to handle presentation and letting the back-end simply output data, important for code re-use. Sign up for a free trial to see the file transfer site in action.

HarvardBusiness.org Redesign

HarvardBusiness.org and Harvard Business Review Redesign

Harvard Business publishing recently launched a major redesign of their HarvardBusiness.org and Harvard Business Review.org sites and asked me to create XHTML/CSS templates based on their agency's designs as well as many of the javascript-based tools and modules on the site. The javascript modules were created using the Prototype library as that is the standard library used across the board at Harvard Business. I also assisted with integrating these templates into their custom CMS systems. PLEASE NOTE - some portions of the pages found on these sites are no longer maintained by me, some code may have changed since the original launch.

TD Ameritrade New Customer Flash Tutorial

TD Ameritrade New Customer Flash Tutorial

This tool was built as an object-oriented Flash application to assist former TD Waterhouse customers converting to the new TD Ameritrade trading platform. All content is generated via XML for low-cost maintenance and ease of duplication should other tutorials be necessary in the future. We used the FuseKit library in order to streamline our animation process and reduce our reliance on the timeline.

LL Teach Redesign

LL Teach Redesign

LL Teach, providing teaching resources to children in grades K-12, wanted to improve their web presence and increase the amount of sales generated from their online store. I redesigned and reorganized their site to improve access to important information about their company and provide better integration of their Miva Merchant store into the site content. In addition I developed a custom Flash video player in order for them to demonstrate their teaching services to a wide audience.

This Way Up Flash Site

This Way Up Flash Site

This site presents six “stories” in online-book format, allowing the user to manually or automatically turn each page of the book, each highlighting a different facet of the client's consulting service. To keep costs low I heavily modified an existing page-turning function and converted into an ActionScript 2 class file for increased code modularity.

TD Ameritrade Branch Locator

TD Ameritrade Branch Locator

In order to reduce outside vendor costs, TD Ameritrade decided to build their Branch Locator tool in-house using the Google Maps API. All branch data is stored in a JSON object retrieved by an AJAX call when a user selects a particular branch. We utilized the jQuery library to streamline and standardize our code.

Blue Dolphin Redesign

Blue Dolphin Magazines Redesign

To prepare for a new promotional campaign, Blue Dolphin wanted to re-skin their entire site, as well as adding a new UI feature to allow users to find out more about each magazine before clicking. I integrated the new XHTML templates into the OSCommerce/PHP framework and implemented AJAX-generated tooltips using the jQuery library.
